Symptoms
Typical symptoms of hay fever are the following:
- Nasal itching
- Sneezing
- Rhinorrhea
- Nasal obstruction
- Itching of the pharynx, the auditory canals and the eye
- Tearing
- Oedema of the eyelids
- Loss of the sense of smell
Inflammatory diseases of the nasal cavities and sinuses are mostly of allergic origin. Based on their complaints, patients can be divided in two groups:
- In the first place, nasal obstruction is least typical of those patients with complaints of sneezing and rhinorrhea who has their symptoms in attacks. Symptoms are more severe during the day and milder at night.
- Patients, who complain of nasal obstruction with little sneezing and rhinorrhea, which latter tend to be thick, viscous and mainly flows towards the pharynx. Their symptoms are graver during the night.
